2020 Season Newsletter
This year’s season is profoundly affected by Covid-19. With safety in mind, and while trying to negotiate an evolving situation, the Board is addressing the crisis several ways described below.
As a reminder, Northcrest Pool is a nonprofit operated by membership. It is not a health club with a private owner. We are a community of members who collectively share the benefits and the costs, whether the facility is open or closed. The crisis is affecting every family differently so we urge you to please reach out to a Board Member as needed. We are all in this together, and we will deal with it together. Stay well, everyone.
Spring Member Meeting May 14th at 6:30pm– ONLINE VIA GOOGLE MEET
Special Condition Membership Due: $349 (you’ll receive an invoice via email)
This is a temporary due for fixed annual operating costs plus the cost of preparing the pool to open (view how this amount was calculated here, you must be logged in to see it). All memberships must pay this due or be considered in arrears and unable to use the facility.
Opening to Membership Due: TBA (you’ll receive an invoice via email)
If and when the pool opens to membership, an additional due is payable. It will probably not exceed the balance between the Special Condition Due and the normal due of $495. All memberships must pay this due or be considered in arrears and unable to use the facility.
Late Fee on Dues: $50
If a membership’s dues are unpaid by August 1st, a $50 late fee is payable in addition to the due in arrears. The late fee accrues each year.
Social Distancing Policy
Northcrest Pool’s operation license is regulated by SL County and must follow their social distancing protocols. At this point, SL County is following State policy.
The State is currently at a moderate risk (orange level) of precautions. This level restricts usage to lap swim activity only, one person per lane. Home owner association pools are not allowed to open, and Northcrest might be considered to fall into that category. We would dispute that decision.
If the precaution level moves to low risk, more activities might be allowed. If the precaution level remains where it is, the Board will ask the County about a plan more suitable for our facility. In either case, we have begun discussing how social distancing could work at Northcrest. One idea is based on the orange level guideline that allows families to sit together in theaters. Could families be allowed to recreate together at Northcrest? One plan could include: a reservation system that would allow only 3 memberships at a time, each limited to a certain number of people, each restricted to a designated area of the pool and deck; eliminating lifeguards and replacing them with sentries who would be responsible for enforcing social distancing and cleaning surfaces; and hiring a cleaning contractor for regular service. Please keep in mind that these ideas are only a starting point, and they are not allowable right now. They are stated here to help communicate that normal operation is improbable this summer.
Program Cancellations
Teams, lessons, parties, and adult activities are suspended for the 2020 season.
Teams and lessons are not occurring for numerous reasons. First, it is imprudent to finalize coaching contracts with so many unknowns. Second, it is likely that low participation would result in a sizeable net loss (the program usually pays for itself). Third, unlike other clubs, Northcrest has no staff to provide the intensive oversight that would be necessary to running a kids sport program during a time of such uncertainty and changing guidelines. Finally, as a small facility with only 6 lanes and limited deck areas, Northcrest has numerous impediments to safe social distancing with groups of kids.
Guests and Trial Memberships
2020 policy under consideration.
Schedule
The pool is currently scheduled to be ready on June 1. If the pool is allowed to open, because all programs are cancelled, it could probably be available from 6am to 10pm. Usage during those times will be subject to social distancing rules discussed above.
